Wardsville’s Barn Quilts
In October 2009, Wardsville’s quilt committee began designing a fabric quilt to commemorate Wardsville founders, Mr. and Mrs. George Ward. Their story is one of adventure, war, pioneering, family, politics, religion, controversy, and suffering.
The following April, a beautiful quilt featuring 30 blocks that tell the story of his life was unfurled in the United Church. Each of the block designs has been painted onto an 8′ X 8′ foot square mural to be mounted on the barns and historic buildings of the area. This beautiful quilt won second prize in the group category of the International Plowing Match 2010 quilt competition and will be on view in Wardsville on Father’s Day weekend Bicentennial and at the Plowing Match in September.
The goal of Wardsville Bicentennial 2010 was to create memories and leave a legacy. Fabric, film, paint and pen are the tools we are using to build community through the arts and heritage.
